As if the big cities of Italy such as Rome, Venice and Milan weren’t enough, you have to go to the northeast region called Friuli Venezia Giulia. Once you arrive in Italy, you take a train to one of their provinces and you will be reimbursed. This area has everything you could ask for for an amazing trip. Beautiful mountains, museums, rich in history, many vineyards and some of the most beautiful beaches in Italy.
Made up of provinces, Udine, Pordenone, Gorizia and Trieste, Friuli Venezia Giulia wants visitors to experience it all. And if reimbursing your train ticket fee isn’t enough, they also provide you with an FVG card. Which gives you free entry to museums, public transport and discounts at local businesses. The only commitment you need to make is to stay a minimum of two nights in one of the hotels subscribed to the FVG government program.
From today until May 31, 2023, the tourist office will reimburse train tickets for travelers arriving in the cities of Trieste and Udine as well as in the seaside resorts of Grado and Lignano Sabbiadore. Visitors can also travel on Trenitalia trains, regional or intercity lines as well as Frecce high-speed lines. However, you must book at least a minimum two-night package that includes any of the accommodations that are part of the promotion. In addition, with this package you will receive your free FVGcard which gives you access to museums and guided tours, either for free or at a reduced rate.
Where to go
Trieste is considered one of the main cities in the region. With influences from Austria and Hungary dating back to before World War I, you’ll see architecture and culture in the older parts of town as well as Roman vibes.
The province of Udine is known to be part of the Venetian and Austrian empires. It is the province that most represents Friuli Venezia Giulia. Inside a castle turned museum, you can see the works of famous Italian painters Caravaggio and Tiepolo as well as visit one of their 13th-century cathedrals.
Grado and Lignano Sabbiadoro are FVG’s two seaside destinations. Grado has been called “mother of Venice” structured from islands inside a lagoon. Lignano Sabbiadoro is home to the best resorts on the Adriatic Sea, with a bubble-shaped pier stretching out over the water called “Terrazza a Mare”.
