Opinion issued on COVID recovery certificates for trips to France and Italy

Travelers to France or Italy who use a certificate of recovery to validate COVID status for travel are encouraged to download or print the latest PDF version of their certificate.

The Department of Health has been made aware of technical issues whereby verification apps used to scan QR codes in France and Italy were not recognizing codes from recovery certificates.

A resolution was quickly shared with the EU which will be activated tomorrow February 11, 2022.

All travelers who received recovery certificates will receive an email tomorrow afternoon with advice on updating the certificates to the versions with the new codes (check spam folders).

In the meantime, people are advised to download or print the latest PDF version of their certificates before traveling as QR codes may be updated.

Recovery certificates for international travel are available 10 days after a positive test. Anyone who is eligible can request a COVID recovery certificate, in the form of a QR code, through the COVIDCert NI app.

Parents and guardians can request through their NI Direct account, certificates of recovery for youth up to age 17.

The certificate is valid for up to 180 days from the date of the PCR test.
