“Italy, the view is extraordinary”

A player who marked the history of golf made a stopover in Italy in recent days. Gary Player visited the Antognolla golf course in Perugia and was pleasantly satisfied. Born in 1935, Gary Player is one of the giants of golf, with more than 160 career successes and nine majors on the board.

He is rightly considered an ambassador for the sport.

Gary Player, statements

The South African icon was the protagonist of a tour in our country after the BMW PGA Championship played in Wentworth. His visit to the course and the resort bears witness to the quality of the work accomplished in these regions of Umbria, in a golf resort located in one of the most beautiful places in Italy.

The property is located on the hills of Perugia, a few steps from places with high tourist potential such as Assisi, Gubbio, Marmore Falls … The complex is only 20 minutes from Perugia airport and ideally located between Florence and Rome.

Gary Player said during his hit and run that “although my stay at Antognolla Golf was very short, I can see that the greens are among the most beautiful in Italy. The view is simply amazing. When the castle is restored into a hotel it will become one of the most beautiful places in Europe.

It is an incredible coincidence that my visit coincided with the International Thank a Greenkeeper Day: the team has indeed done an exceptional job with the field ”Words that did not please the director César Burguière.

“Gary Player is one of the greatest golfers of all time. It was an honor to meet him – he said – and to welcome him. Although Gary has a busy schedule, we were delighted to learn of his desire to play on our field and to experience our vision firsthand.

Gary has designed over 200 courses around the world. Welcoming him to Antognolla and hearing his opinion was a great privilege for the team ”. The Antognolla Golf project is still ongoing. We have already spoken about this and now remember that the course is characterized by long and sloping fairways, with water hazards and wide, undulating greens.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones Junior, Antognolla is an exciting and satisfying course for golfers of all skill levels. The work team reworked the irrigation systems, renovated the bunkers and redone the tees. Then, non-irrigated native fescue areas were introduced, a new extensive driving range and drainage created to ensure playability all year round.
