Fiorentina vs. Internazionale – Football Match Report – September 21, 2021

Internazionale provisionally rose to the top of Serie A as goals from Edin Dzeko and Ivan Perisic helped the Italian champions win 3-1 at Fiorentina on Tuesday.

Bosnian striker Dzeko found the net 10 minutes after the start of the second half, three minutes after Matteo Darmian equalized for the visitors to cancel Riccardo Sottil’s opener for Fiore and Perisic concluded with a late strike.

The result gives Inter 13 points in five games, one ahead of second-placed Napoli, who will look to maintain their perfect record on their trip to Sampdoria on Wednesday.

Fiorentina, who sent off Nicolas Gonzalez 12 minutes from time, are sixth with nine points after their second loss of the season.

In Florence, Inter got off to a shaky start and were left behind after 23 minutes when Sottil hit a Gonzalez cross at the far post.

Inter didn’t panic, however, and seven minutes into the second half, Nicolo Barella’s foray into the box ended with Darmian’s cross, who found the back of the net with a low, tilted shot.

Three minutes later, Dzeko returned home from Hakan Calhanoglu’s corner to give Inter a deserved lead.

Fiorentina’s comeback hopes were dashed when Gonzalez received a second yellow card for removing Alessandro Bastoni’s jersey.

Perisic then put the result beyond doubt with three minutes remaining when he scored in an empty goal on a Roberto Gagliardini cross, concluding a fine performance from the visitors who needed a half to get into their rhythm.
