Champions League 2021/22: schedule, schedules and groups
The 2021/22 Champions League campaign kicks off this Tuesday, September 14, with three significant encounters during the first day: Barcelona host Bayern Munich, AC Milan will travel to Liverpool and Real Madrid will face Inter Milan at the refurbished Santiago Bernabéu.
In the absence of unforeseen circumstances, Cristiano Ronaldo’s first Champions League game for Manchester United since 2009 final loss to Barcelona will be against Young Boys on Tuesday 14 September, while Lionel Messi is set to play his first European game for PSG against Club Brugge.
Defending champions Chelsea start their title defense against Zenit at Stamford Bridge, while last year’s runner-up Manchester City faces RB Leipzig. City were drawn in Group A with PSG, with the duo meeting on Matchday 2 on Tuesday, September 28. Matchday two will also see Atlético take on AC Milan and Juventus host Chelsea in other landmark fixtures.
After the exciting round of 16 match between Atlético Madrid and Liverpool in February 2020, the meeting of the two teams on Matchday 3, on October 19, will be one of the most anticipated meetings of the group stage. As in 2020, Atlético will host the first game between the two before heading to Anfield two weeks later for the second game on November 3.
