Ann Arbor football highlights: Lincoln’s Jorden Collier runs for 5 TD in savage Skyline win

YPSILANTI – Ypsilanti Lincoln was leading 41-14 with 10 minutes left in the third quarter when things got weird.

The Railsplitters saw Ann Arbor Skyline score 32 points in the second half – and 25 in the fourth – but were able to hold on to a 54-46 win thanks in part to five rushed touchdowns from Jorden Collier.

Collier scored five total touchdowns in Lincoln’s first five games but returned to his successful game scoring on runs of 19, 2, 3, 25 and 51 yards as Lincoln ended a streak of 4 back-to-back defeats and scored the most points in a game since scoring 63 in week two of the 2018 season.

Skyline was trailing 41-21 at the end of the third quarter when they came back with a bang and made things interesting.

After Lincoln extended their lead to 48-21 on Collier’s fourth rushing score in the fourth quarter, Skyline responded with a TD pass from Colin Brueger to Will Gardner to reduce the deficit to 48-28.

The Eagles recovered from a fumble and capitalized with a 7-yard touchdown from Carson Mitchell to make it 48-35 in the fourth quarter.

But Lincoln responded with Collier’s fifth scoring on a 51-yard run to push the lead to 54-35 with eight minutes remaining.

Skyline refused to come down without a fight and added a 43-yard basket from Brueger and added a rushing score from QB Evan Rothenberg.

Lincoln was not fazed as he managed to hold on and move to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in Southeastern Conference Red.

In addition to Collier’s big night, Lincoln saw quarterback Trey Richey register a passing and rushing score and Quinn Stephens scored a 27-yard scoreline that gave Lincoln a 35-14 lead at mid -time.

Skyline fell to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the SEC-Red and will host Huron next Friday.

Chelsea start quickly in the rout of Ypsilanti

Lucas Hanifan returned the opening kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown for Chelsea and the Bulldogs have never looked back on their way to a 49-13 victory over Ypsilanti.

Senior running back Trent Hill followed with two touchdowns and one receiving and Hanifan caught a 62-yard touchdown pass from Lucas Dunn to give the Bulldogs a 35-7 lead at halftime.

Cole Munson added 22 rushing yards in the third quarter and Tyson Hill topped Chelsea with a rushing score as he rose to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the SEC-White.

Ypsilanti (0-6, 0-4 SEC-White) was paced by Ashton Jenson, who rushed for 183 yards and a score and Sir David Williams added a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Chelsea will next face Tecumseh, while Ypsilanti take on Pinckney next week.

Huron retains Dexter on senior night.

Huron’s defense forced back-to-back turnovers on down tries late in the fourth quarter to fend off Dexter, 28-21, in a 4-1 team battle on Friday night.

Senior CJ Baldwin scored two rushing touchdowns for Huron on senior night, fulfilling a promise he made to his mother earlier today.

Milan fights, but falls to Riverview in Huron League clash

Milan couldn’t find the defensive position they needed in the second half of Friday’s 42-29 loss to Riverview.

The Big Reds came in at halftime tied at 14 with Riverview (6-0, 5-0 Huron League) but were outscored 28-15 in the second half as they fell to 4-2 on aggregate and at 3-2 in the Huron League.

Cole McElvany had 17 of 29 passes for 186 yards and rushed for 97 yards and two scores. Connor Dessellier recorded 10 receptions for 112 yards, Jett Isaacs caught six passes for 72 yards and William Gaskell rushed for a score for the Big Reds.

“Our kids fought with everything they had,” said Milan coach Jesse Hoskins. “We had opportunities. We needed a timely stoppage in the second half and couldn’t get one.

Milan will look to regroup against Monroe Jefferson next Friday.

Saline blanks Pioneer to remain undefeated

Saline continued to dominate SEC-Red, beating Pioneer 41-0 on Friday.

The Hornets started quickly with a touchdown pass from CJ Carr to Tate Bezeau, and Zach Antal scored in a rush that helped them get into the 28-0 break.

Saline extended their SEC-Red winning streak to 43 games and earned their 11th straight win over the Pioneers.

The Hornets (6-0, 5-0 SEC-RED) will travel to Temperance Bedford (5-1, 4-1 SEC-Red) next Friday for the chance to clinch their eighth consecutive SEC-Red title.

Pioneer fell to 0-6 on aggregate and 0-5 in the SEC-Red and will next face Ypsilanti Lincoln.

The precipitous attack on Whitmore Lake reigns supreme

The Trojans racked up 312 rushing yards en route to a dominant 42-6 win over Sterling Heights Parkway Christian.

Nathan Francis rushed for 129 yards and three scores, including a 77-yard TD, Isaac Brady added 102 yards and one score and returned an interception for a TD and Donovan Fox recorded 75 yards and a TD for the Trojans who rose to 5-1 and finished 3-1 in the Michigan Independent Athletic Conference game.

Whitmore Lake will host Ecorse next Friday.
